We arrived into this world as sensory machines
Curiosity rovers roaming the landscape
Equipped with tools and instruments
So that we can lock on to our targets
And miss them at the same time
We have eyes that are made to become mesmerized
distracting the brain from seeing
Ears that only feel safe in the company of sounds
and fail to recognize silence
Noses that can only detect prey or danger
that are afraid to smell the ocean
for fear that they may fall in.
But there is one more instrument,
that prefers to hide under the skin
working alone in the dark
to the sound of drums.
It is blind
Can’t smell or see
Yet it succeeds when all others fail
helping the rover find its direction
or to simply learn to stay still
