Turkish Book Review – The Unhappiness Machine (Livera Publications)

The Unhappiness Machine tells us a story that we are all familiar with in one way or another but insist on not hearing: the story of man’s rapid progress towards the end of the world he knows and organizes. In this book, which draws attention to the tragedy of the human species, ashamed of its natural heritage, of its kinship with other species on this planet and desperately trying to isolate itself; A ruthless critique of our unhappiness, which has now reached a global dimension, is given without falling into the blandness of conspiracy theories.

According to this story, unhappiness is not something intrinsically pertaining to the existence of the human species; It is a state of mind invented, popularized and exploited by capitalism and fascism, which needs unhappiness for its own survival. In order to get rid of this unhappiness, which is an extension of the techno-narcissism that has taken over the era, much more is needed than reforms that only relieve the conscience and aim to save the day. Otherwise, traces of the destruction wrought on the planet by the human species will not disappear long after this species’ almost certain extinction.

Tsakraklides, who draws attention to the hypocrisy of such approaches, which work with conceptualizations such as sustainability and green energy, does not hesitate to point out a final possibility to get out of this hell, even though he paints a very pessimistic picture of the future of human beings; disappear and disappear
He states that the only realistic way we can try to get rid of the necessity of doing this is to radically change our lifestyle on a global scale.
