Empire vs. People and Planet

As tens of millions of Americans begin to fall below the poverty line, their leader plans to annex Gaza, Canada, Greenland, and Mars.  This has all the signs of late-stage Empire tantrums: the economic desperation becomes so immense that the only way for the Empire to continue, and distract its impoverished citizens, is to annex territory and resources.  But as it over-extends itself and its own resources, it ends up losing territory instead.  This is an all-too-familiar history lesson.

But the American people don’t care about more territory.  They just want to have food on their plates. No one asked them if they wanted their taxes to fund failed SpaceX rockets, Nazis on ketamine and cryptocurrency grifters.  Government has long ago become an orgy party for failed businessmen desperate for handouts.

This is a time when we should be challenging the fundamentals of modern necrocapitalist society: how democracy became a cleptocracy, government became a collection of mobsters, CEOs became oligarchs, and the media became a poison for truth.  Unless we demolish the collusion between power, wealth and media, we, the people, will be the first victims of a global war between empires.  With little natural resource left on the planet and an escalating climate crisis, the ultimate winner in this war will be the planet, not humans.

    1. It’s a classic capitalist response to depletion – your stuff is used up, so next take from your neighbour, then the next, etc. That is “economic growth,” but now we’ve confiscated the whole planet. But, unlike the environmentalists exclamations to “save the planet,” like George says, the planet will be fine – stupid humans, not so much.
