Every criminal can walk out of prison free if they manage to incriminate the prosecution. Global capital is a gangster who gets away with murder every single time, by implicating us into its crimes.
As consumatrons we are wholly dependent on the criminal necrosystem of the human Ponzi economy. We are accomplices who are bribed every single day so that this entity can continue its crimes in broad daylight. We see the crimes, we acknowledge them, and we pretend we haven’t seen them. We censor ourselves and shift blame to the “elites” and the wealthy, when in fact the elites and the wealthy have bribed us all. This toxic economy is a cycle of bribes and crimes between the wealthy, the poor, and other so-called innocent bystanders.
The atrocities this economic system commits never make it to court, precisely because the plaintiffs themselves were implicated from the start. Justice becomes complicit, sabotaging itself while performing an elaborate pantomime theatre of make-believe impartiality. Why proceed with fair justice anyway, when it would be a lose-lose situation for both defendant and the prosecution? Anyone who decides to finger-point or blame, soon realises that they have just entered a boomerang session. Retreating from the crimes of capitalism is a lose-lose situation for “the economy” i.e. all human parties involved. What should be the real prosecution, Nature and its 10 million species, is not even present in the court room. They were never given representation.
As consumatrons we turn a blind eye to the crimes of global capital around the world, because we are the beneficiaries of those crimes: cheap consumer products, unlimited energy use, unlimited water use, are just some of the toxic gifts our ecocidal economy showers us with however poor or wealthy we are, so that we can shut up and give this system a blank cheque. The bribes we accept are so immense, we cannot imagine life without them. These crimes are used to pay for the bribes, which in turn allow the crimes to continue.
This extremely comfortable arrangement is not only immoral. It can only be temporary. The cycle of bribes and crimes is the downward spiral which has caused the climate crisis and ecological collapse which spearhead the collapse of civilisation. Our society is stuck in this circle because this is how it has learned to perpetuate its delusions of growth.
There are no limits to the destructiveness of global capital as long as we all remain faithful accomplices. The more this necrosystem grows, the faster it will consume itself. But the cycle of bribes and crimes can be broken, at least in theory. Without the bribes there would be no crimes, and vice versa. But as long as the “general public” is just as guilty as the “criminals”, the blame will only go round and round as we all enter the whirlpool of collapse, together.
