Resisting the Curse of Global Capital: Transformation Through Collapse

It was unavoidable from our very beginnings that a species with this much in-built psychosis would only be able to give rise to a self-destructive civilisation.  The full-time job of government, corporates and the media is now to simply keep everyone convinced that this self-annihilating civilisation is somehow supposed to make sense.

Well, it doesn’t, as we are all finding out.  As we enter a bumpy, bruising, bloody descent towards an economic, cognitive and spiritual abyss, the necrosystem will ask us to have faith, calm down our internal alarm, and pretend that the ship isn’t going down.  The music must continue to play no matter what. We will be asked to keep on working, keep on trusting, take all of “this” on the chin and simply observe our own collapse, when in fact these leaders and their corporate masters are planning for no ticket refunds and no survivors on this ship of fools.  This civilisation was all a Ponzi scheme set up thousands of years ago, when humanity committed itself to unlimited growth and overshoot. Those who have collected dividends are the lucky few.  Now everyone is broke.

But there can be a last-minute uprising. Those who are waking up are finally aware that the consortium between corporatocracy and government was merely using us as work slaves to fund its expensive wars on Gaza, nature and the climate, leaving only crushed peanuts for society. People became workhorses, only to be put down at the end of their shift.  This predicament can only worsen from here, as resources dwindle further, and the climate crisis dismantles civilisational and economic infrastructure.  So where does that leave us?  Is there any point in pretending anymore?

While people’s attention is monopolised by a consumaverse which has been set up specifically to distract them into subordination, some of those feeling the impacts of this collapse will undoubtedly wake up.  They may begin to see that Netflix and the necrosystem’s constant new product alerts are the vehicles global capital uses to keep us busy as the collapse takes place. As our mental and physical health endure the challenges of a collapsing world, actual reality will begin to compete for attention with the consumatronic theme park of the unhappiness machine.  This is when revolutions begin.  This is the time to wake up from the coma.

People and nature need a new contract with power, media and money. This can only happen if people increasingly throw their current contract in the bonfire, and walk out.
