When I was growing up, one of the stereotypes, fair or unfair, we always said about Americans was that they’ll sue someone at the drop of a hat, for silly stuff. Even then, it was clear that litigation was being used not as a vehicle for justice, but as a weapon of revenge and extortion. He/she who had the best lawyers, not the best case, won, and I experienced that myself during my years in the US. America was already dark, even back in the days when it was a “democracy”. The justice profession became a business to the point that Americans themselves coined the famous phrase: “Lawyers Suck”. Laconic, punchy, but full of deep meaning.
But in the same corrupt way that it thrived, the justice system is now bowing down to the Trump administration’s personal threats for the same reason: money. Law firms which have all the evidence available to sue the government a million times over for what it has done in the past few months, are sitting idle because “it’s not good for business”, even though it would be good for justice. They have been threatened, some have even striken deals with the government to avoid being paraded in the media as “Leftist”, “biased judges” and forced to eventually shut down.
But if you think that the justice system has just been destroyed in America, I am here to correct you. It was sold out long ago. Most lawyers DO suck, and their spineless capitulation to this junta proves it. Only the brave ones will be remembered.
