Fascism and Capitalism. A Short Reference Guide on How the Two (Don’t) Differ

Fascism will take away our freedoms, but our freedoms were limited to begin with. In fact, they were illusions of freedom. Because we were served an illusion of choice, and when it comes to voting choice for that matter, an illusion of democracy itself. Whether Kamala or Trump had won, this world would have gone to hell. Because capital rules everything and everyone now, and capital always suppresses truth, and justice. It suppresses the climate crisis. It suppresses workers rights. It suppresses ecological crime. It suppresses any “inconvenient overhead” that will eat into its profits. It enables genocide when genocide is profitable. You get me now?

Openly fascist regimes get all the bad rep, because they are bluntly overt about their intentions. They say what they will do, and actively do it. Neoliberal governments are arguably more sinister, because they have mastered the art of pretending and lying. What about the Murdoch media empire that destroyed Britain? What about the consumatronic hypnosis the American people have been under which disabled their political intelligence? What about the “energy transition” fraud which is making billions for renewable energy tycoons while emissions skyrocket and the climate crisis accelerates? The corruption created a world where everything became corrupt. The decades of manipulation we suffered under neoliberalism are still with us, and we never got over the lies. In fact, this is what set the stage for fascism to move in. Some people, including those we call “dumb”, smelled the BS. They saw that something was wrong. Something was horribly corrupt.

This is not a Trump government. This is a Trump-Kamala coalition, whether she knows it or not. Is there anyone out there who fights for workers’ rights? For the environment? For minorities? Yes, of course, the Democrats, supposedly. Americans who voted Democrat did so because they thought they voted for the opposite of Trump. But sometimes in a two party system you don’t have opposites, in fact you get something very interesting: a single party with an oligarchic economic policy, which comes in two different ideological and cultural variations, so that you feel there is something that “represents” you. But as a voter whichever way you vote, you are choosing from a cartel: a single party that came in two flavours. Either way you’re fucked.

The cycle of history will repeat. People may eventually wake up from fascism after it has done its usual damage, and discover socialism. The problem is that this time around, we simply won’t have time. The planet itself is about to implement its own fascism, as it limits the scope and survivability of a species that should have known better by now. We have been taught in school of the results of fascism, each time it raised its ugly head in human history. Yet there is barely ever a mention of how fascist humanity’s relationship with the natural environment has been, practically since the beginning of time. If we don’t learn to respect Earth, we will never learn to respect each other.

  1. Hi George, love your words brother, I smelled the bullshit when I was 12, I’m now 59 and Ive been ostracized by the vast majority of people Ive ever met because ,”you’re a rebel without a cause, recalcitrant, communist, criminal etc etc and told them mostly to grow up or f*** off. I’m older now and have moderated my ways but Ive also realised that I’ve been mostly right, I have actively encouraged my conscience and altruistic thinking which at times has gained me a little praise but also solicits comments like, “you’re a hippy weirdo” ,from my estranged narcissistic influencer daughter for suggesting that most politicians are complicit in the destruction of the biosphere, she works for a major fossil fuel loving political party in Australia. Keep up the good work mate and I’ll keep reading, unfortunately I’m only just earning enough to get by with the ever present danger of running out of food and medication, so I’ll have to send you my love only at this time.

  2. Thanks for that George, I’ll forward your emails onto some capitalist apologists I know, I’m slowly bringing some of them around, they are getting well annoyed as their prospects decline in the current civilizational malaise which I have assured them, will not cease.
