Why The Democrats Were Always Set To Lose

The problem with the Democratic Party is that it became consumed with defining itself as the opposite of Trump, rather than carving its own identity.  Usually when someone defines themselves based on someone else, it means that they’ve got nothing to say.

And in this case, it also meant that they had something to hide.  The Democrats had a lot of things to hide from their voters.  So many, that their voters clocked their two-faced stunt and left them out to dry on the other side of the Blue Wall.

For example, Democrats lied to voters about representing the vulnerable minorities, when these minorities have suffered the worst of the cost-of-living crisis, seeing their tax money under a Democratic administration disappear into wars raging far and wide – one of them waged against Muslims, when there are almost 4 million Americans of Arab descent – a population comparable to those who identify as Jewish, albeit not the type of wealthy ethnic minority the Democrats prefer to do business with. In other words, the Democrats play dirty. They pretend to be about equality, but they choose carefully which racial or ethnic minorities they will work with. If they don’t fit into their strategy, or have the voter numbers, screw them.

When you are a party in power who claims to fight for the Blacks, Latinos and other racial minorities, it is not enough to say it.  You have to act it, and this is where minority voters caught Kamala’s BS, right as it came out of her mouth.  To be honest, Kamala’s face said it all.  Her robotic, empathy-deficient, sometimes almost patronizing responses to journalist’s questions during interviews left me bored, bemused, and angry. I don’t need a lawyer for a president. Lawyers suck at honesty.  It was clear to see that even herself struggled to believe, to really “feel” the things she was saying.  Apart from abortion rights, everything else lacked passion, conviction, and determination.  Because she knew she had nothing.

Rather than focusing internally and listening to their potential voters, the Democrats thought they would win based on the fact that the alternative, a Trump government, would be a fascist horror show.  That’s lazy.  I’m sorry, it’s just dreadfully lazy.  Sitting there, waiting for people to vote for you because the other guy is horrendous.  Hmmm…

Well, the other guy had arguments, policies, promises, the usual tactics that fascists employ.  The problem with Democrats is that, even if they had gotten their agendas, policies and promises together, these would be a watered-down version of what they should be when you are up against a fascist.  The problem is that what rules the Democrats also rules Republicans:  capital, and corporations, i.e. capitalofascism, in two equally disgusting flavours:  upper middle class neo-hipster liberal, and working class ultra conservative Christian.  The sponsors behind both these grotesque flavours would never let any remotely socialist or genuine “people’s campaign” pledge survive their scrutiny, in a country where “the people” have stopped ruling for a long, long time and socialism means communism to most.  (I’ve lived 12 years in the US and I know). 

Trump however, managed to secure his place as “the peoples man”.  The result was a landslide victory, in a country who had been looking for a people’s movement for decades.  It’s not just Trump that’s here to stay.  It’s Trumpism, which stands for anti-system revolt.  He has claimed the domain from the Democrats, branded it, and made it his own. This was supposed to be Democratic territory. How ironic.

The Democrats are a party for the rich and educated who, ironically, pretended to represent minorities, that is, groups who are comparatively not as rich and educated.  Looks like a major strategic oversight here, which is what happens when you are bullshitting yourself. It is an existential question for the entire party, which they haven’t solved for quite a few elections now.  Bernie Sanders was the only honest politician they had.  And they eliminated him because he wasn’t good for “business”.  He didn’t fit into the Democrat’s fraudulent image. Too honest.

The Democrats need to come clean to themselves and decide:  do they want to continue to be another neoliberal party of the rich pretending to be a party of the people, or do they want to be a party of the people?  I guess their sugar daddies will never let them sort their daddy issues.  Which is why, the Democrats should not exist.  We need something better, and the options are there.  But as long as this country has a two-party system, the Democrats will always fall into the trap of defining themselves as the opposite of “the other guy”.  Well, that doesn’t do much at all.
