The world is hostage to money. Consumers pay environmentally-destructive multinational companies so that they can have the latest gadget or fashion item. Workers pay taxes to corrupt governments that spend it on tanks, bribes and yachts. And democracies in Europe pay dearly their blood-thirsty dictator next-door to supply them with gas and oil.
We are not just hostages to money. We are hostages to an ecocidal and homicidal economic system that, by its definition, does not care about human rights or the environment. You see, human rights and the environment are the biggest impediment to profit.
But we get what we deserve. As long as we have an insatiable need for energy and an unwavering crave for the latest fashion, there will be oligarchs and sweatshops. There will be climate change. There will be 150 species going extinct everyday while the whole world is focused elsewhere, watching a fucking war between two factions of the most destructive species that has ever walked on this planet.
It’s all about perspective, isn’t it?
Fuck GDP. Fuck money and growth. Fuck this selfishness and greed that has taken over all of us. It is time to value the things that are not measured in money. It is time to start buying nothing. It is time to start paying attention to the flowers that we are trampling over as we move in a hurry on this planet not even watching where we’re going, chasing after the next natural resource to consume
