The Planet vs. Business. Who Will Blink First?

Human civilisation is a criminal entity. Can we change that?

It should not be a surprise to anyone why COP26, and all the other COPs for that matter, will ALWAYS fail, down to the very last COP that humans will ever have. Sorry to depress you.

Do not be fooled by the passionate, emotional speeches by some of the world leaders at COP26. As Greta Thunberg has put it in brilliantly simple words, it’s all “bla bla bla” for the past 40 years. If anything, the increasingly emotional tone of all of these speeches merely demonstrates the exponentially progressive level of frustration and desperation among world leaders, as they plead with the rest of the leaders in this hot air balloon, to volunteer to jump off the balloon first, so that they can still escape into the sky with their presidency unscathed. Who will absorb the political cost? What leader would be willing to face the death threats that would surely come if they were to begin shutting down major industries (something that now, in this “5 seconds to midnight” moment, is increasingly becoming an inevitable necessity?)

But the speeches are actually not even aimed directly at the other leaders (or should I say the other puppets). They are not even smoke and mirrors aimed towards the ordinary people anymore. We are past the smoke and mirrors stage, everyone has called everyone else’s bluff already.

The speeches are aimed at the only person in the room who is asleep: Big Business. And this is why the speeches are so utterly hopeless and pathetic. They are all knocking at the wrong door: Business doesn’t care about emotion or wonderfully put-together “bla bla bla”. Business doesn’t care about morals or people’s lives. No well-written speech will ever manage to move the monster of Business As Usual. COP26 and all other COP meetings will always fail because they were set up to fail from the beginning. The level of stupidity behind this model of bringing about change through trying to persuade the totalitarian dictatorship of Big Business, can simply be seen in the results we’ve had so far: the complete and utter failure of COP.

As humans continue to make Earth poorer and poorer, business is still profiting. Our economic system and civilisation is a criminal entity, bringing the planet to its knees through all of its CO2-emitting activities: construction, fashion, meat-eating, advertising, greenwashing, exploitation of humans and the Earth, and constant brainwashing of all of us to continue this lifestyle. There is no rational way to communicate with a dictator, a criminal.

Business doesn’t listen to emotions. The only way to communicate, to send a message across to Business, is to speak its language: the language of money, and the blackmail of monopoly. The only way to handle a criminal is to handcuff them. It is time to blackmail business. To hurt its profits. To hurt its prospects. To threaten it. Because its future prospects, its future profits, are already under threat anyway, by climate change.

So how will WE hurt Business? How will WE give it a taste of its own bitter poison?

We won’t. Simply because we all want to continue to eat what we want. Crank up the heat in the winter. Fly around the world. Ask someone else to jump off the hot air balloon instead.

What? Did I upset you? Did you think that this blog was going to finish in some kind of a revolutionary call to arms? An emotional crescendo of some type? I think we’ve had enough of those speeches already.

Unless…suddenly people woke up. They refused to cooperate with the Monster. They refused to consume, they accepted to live frugally, so that their children can actually get to live. So that the mass extinction event that is already under way can at least be minimized.

Have a think. Now, not later. We’ve kind of run out of time for thinking, you know…

  1. Dear George spot on .. we need to have smaller lives .. that’s how they’ve captured us .. we’ve been hypnotised by greed, FOMO.. whilst we sleep and gather product, they destroy the earth and grow money .. they are monsters and we are asleep .. living meaningful smaller lives is not going to happen
